Large sports halls present a particular acoustic challenge. Hard surfaces, high ceilings and large volumes can allow sound to build quickly, affecting speech clarity and overall comfort for students, teachers and spectators.
For this school sports hall in France, CCPA, led by designer Nicolas Michelin, worked with Zintra to introduce acoustic treatment across both the ceiling and walls, with CCPA responsible for the acoustic calculation, design and installation.
24mm Zintra Baffles in Frost and Sky were suspended overhead, bringing acoustic absorption into the large ceiling volume while adding a subtle combination of color and rhythm to the space. Zintra wall panels, installed on standoffs, extended the acoustic treatment across the vertical surfaces.
The impact was measurable. Reverberation time was reduced from 3.64 seconds before installation to 1.08 seconds after installation, significantly changing how sound behaves within the hall.
The result demonstrates how considered acoustic design can transform a large, highly reverberant education space while becoming an integrated part of its architectural expression.
